FIELDTRIP REFLECTION REPORT (20%) - An Individual Assignment

Assignment Task
You are required to:

a) Select an event or festival from the recommended list below for your fieldtrip;
b) Compare the selected festival with a similar festival that has been successful in another city in terms of its marketing strategy;
c) Inform your reader about these best practices.
d) Identify the stakeholders in these festivals;
e) Reflect on the main purpose of this event or festival;
f) Comment on the amount of tourism benefits received by the host city of the chosen event.

Instructions for Students
1. Select from the following festival or event that will take place between now and 15 June 2009 for your field trip report:

Other events not listed here could also be explored. Please seek approval from your respective tutors.

1. You are required to post this report on a blog. A hard copy of this report is also required to be submitted on the stipulate date and time. The URL for your blog is to be sent to your tutor by 5 May 2009, Tuesday, to be linked to the main subject blog for Festivals & Events Management.

2. Assignment pre-requisites:
Students must have completed lecture 1 to 3 or have read Allen, J. et al (2008). Festival and Special Events (4th ed.) Milton, Queensland: John Wiley & Sons Australia Ltd, Chapter 1,2,3,9.10.11).

3. Plan a visit to the selected festival or event either individually or with your classmate(s).

4. Show proof of your visit by taking pictures, collecting brochures or other collaterals on site as part of your report.

5. The deliverable of this assignment is an individual report on the blog and a printed copy in word document.

6. Deadline to submit the report is at 9:30am on Tuesday, 23 Jun 2009.

7. Late submission will be subject up to a penalty of 30% (tutor’s discretion reserved) of the total marks awarded. Any submission after 24 hours of the deadline will not be graded.
